i picked up an emachines t2482 from my uncle to take a look at while he was on vacation. he kept getting errors on start up. when i got the computer to my house it would not start at all. i tired 2 different moniteos but the screen just stayed black. i even tried putting in an ati card i had in another computer in but that didn't work. it worked so i could at least see the start up at his house with the monitor that came with it. he is gone until the end on the week so i can't get his monitor to try it out. is there anything i can do to get another monitor to work

thanks

If you tried two different monitors and got nothing displayed with either, then the problem is not the monitor. The fact that a different video card also did not help ruled out the video as well.

Do you get any beeps when you power on the machine? Any lights come on, do the fans and hard drives spin?

the cpu fan spins. i can hear the hard drive spin. the hdd light comes on. the cdrom lights flash like normal bootup. i hear one beep when i first start it. i think the power button has a backlight to it but i don't see it light. i am thinking something wrong with the motherboard
