Piracy is bad.... dry.gif

I agree with that.....

But using torrent clients doesn't make a person pirating anything. As a matter of fact, more and more legit software sources are now starting to offer you the .torrent version of their software.

I guess it's safe to say that everyone in the world that talks about a torrent client is alleged to be a software pirate. Please don't be one of those that are looking on one side of the fence. There is nothing wrong with using torrent clients. It's what you use it for, that can be wrong.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been torrenting myself... (yep,, I had to get in on the new way of downloading).... but if you're using a good client, and you have good Internet speed, and your setting are correct and adequate for what you're doing.... you can try and try all day long, and your downloads aren't going to go any faster. There are many factors you have to take into consideration like:

firewalls
ip blocking
software stability
how many users on that torrent
and for each of those users..... everything above I just mentioned.

I've had files that took minutes, hours, days, weeks, and months... just to download. The only thing you can do is go on with your daily activities and wait for the download to finish. I've been on countless forums, read everything in the world on torrenting.... and it boils down to this...... wait for it to finish,,, or just don't continue with the torrent.

There are however a few tricks of the trade to get your torrents running pretty fast, but that depends on your services logs. Inside it'll tell you if you're maxing out on your connections and it could partially be part of slow downloads.

But from my experience of torrenting... you just have to wait. And I'm sorry if you're on dialup. If you are, you shouldn't even be torrenting at all.

Did you know that a single file comes from many people? So you're not just getting that file from one source, but many.... and if you're on a slow connection, you may be causing others to have to wait to get parts from you before their downloads can continue at a faster speed.

Sometimes when it comes to talking about torrents in general, I feel like I wrote the book on it. I just have that much experience with using those clients.

There are many sources out there to get all the information you need concerning torrenting, and I highly suggest each and everyone of you to exercise that.

Remember this:.... You have to be lucky EVERY TIME.... but they only have to get lucky just one time.

And a lot of the places some of you seem to be using to get torrents.... you're giving them all the ammunition they need to catch you. I can name them all for you... they're going to get you caught out there. Just give it time. Those industries who's against peer-2-peer are infiltrating those sites and sources for torrents... and if you're not using the correct blocking tools, all I can say is this.."Oh Well".

Take time to read security issues, updates on those companies that are fighting online piracy, and other sources, and you'll soon see that you're probably on their "To Do" list. I'm only telling you this so you don't have to say no one told you so. It's not what you do, it's how you do what you do.

Protect yourselves.

Oh... I know this thread was started as "How To Get More Seeds in uTorrent?"... so let me answer it for you. You can't. You can't get people to connect to you if they don't want to share with you. You can't get more seeds if they're not online. Seeds are people that have the complete file. And if they're not online... you just have to wait for them to come online. And then you have seeders out there that are using protection to block the enemy from connecting to their computer, so if your ip is on that banned/blocked list...... guess what?... you'll never connect to that seeder. Now think if all of those seeders are using protection (as they should).... they all may be blocking you. It depends. But there is not pure science to it at all.

You might be connecting to an **AA sting operation and won't even know it. Get it or get out of doing it.

what do you mean by unwanted connections? I thought its just like downloading files, that I only have to care about whether the torrents contains viruses or not.

What I mean is this.. When you download whatever... although nothing is 100% certain, but are you sure that you're NOT connecting to the **AA? Who are they?... They are the RIAA and the MPAA.... if you don't know about them.. you better, and real quick,, because they may already know about you.

You can atleast block the known ip's of those corporations by using PeerGuardian 2 or similar. Basically, no matter what you use, PeerGuardian won't interfere with much of any of your programs. You can get it here: http://methlabs.org . It's designed for privacy protection and p2p users.

I have to tell you this too. It's very effective in blocking unwanted connections (**AA, agencies, trackers, etc).

Go get you one:

Depending on your computers resources (RAM, CPU, etc).. running multiple programs while downloading can cause the hanging on shutting down. What you need to do is a system cleanup.... like defragging, deleting old files (system wide),, removing junk you don't need. Extra RAM wouldn't hurt either. Clear out your cache, and everything else you need to.

But if your computer hangs on shutdown, because you're downloading, then you have probably hogged up all of your resources. Just limit the programs you're using while downloading and see if that helps. Another way to see what's going on is to download, and then open up your Task Manager, and see if something is hogging up your resources.

Tell me you're NOT using Internet Explorer.

Yeah... but how long did it take?

There are many factors to consider when downloading using torrent clients, and the most mis-concepted talk is that something is wrong with the Internet speed in which you're using. It could be the case, but many times it's simply how many connections/peers/seeders you're connected to that matters on how your download will go. If you torrent enough, you'll develop a clear understanding of how the downloading works.

Do like I've done... months in and months out, I would monitor my downloads,, just watching the peers.. the seeders,, the upload/download speeds and other factors. I've gotten enough home training to know torrents very well.

Depending on the file size you're downloading... the best experience you'll get from torrenting is if you have broadband+. That includes the broadband and T1, T3, etc... high speeds. Anything less than that, you simply have to wait it out. I've just finished a 98M file that took a couple of days to download. It's not so much of my Internet speed, it's just that the others (seeders) weren't online,,, and I just had to let it run until they came online,,, went offline,, came online,, went offline.. and so forth,, until it finished. That's the trade-off, price you pay when you torrent. Although I haven't always had this pleasure, but I now have 3 separate computers running at the same time, so now I've always have something to keep me occupied while I'm torrenting.

All in all, you either have to be patient enough to wait it out, or get faster Internet access. Sometimes you can do every-single help guide provided on the Internet.... and they just won't work, either because there are no one seeding that file, or your connection is too slow, or they have ip blocking protection.... or it can be all of them together.
