I'm looking for a product to help me edit my photos (specifically, I need help editing out blemishes, smoothing skin, and removing clothing tags). I'm an aspiring model and I need all the help I can get with my first batch of photos. I already have Irfanview- which is great- but it doesn't do any of those things.

I'd prefer a free program (duh)... but if a program is really awesome, I might consider the investment.

Thanks!!

You need to download two programs on Windows in order to use the GIMP: the GIMP and the GTK runtime environment, which is available for download on the same site. The program won't work without it. Also, if you speak a language other than English, you can select it when you install GTK.

Most of the photo editing software needs to be investigated on its own merits for this sort of task. It really depends on how you are with image manipulation. It sometimes can take a bit of work to get things to still look real when edited.
I use Fireworks but yes this is quite an expensive tool. there are few graphics software that have functions to do this editing for you. Try using a blur function that may help remove some of the inperfections. also will give a soft focus effect aswell if used on the whole image.

Anyway try one of the programs above and see how you get on.

There's a whole list of free editing programs which you can find HERE (it links to another topic on BleepingComputer.com).

As for removing blemishes and whatnot, a pimple can be easily removed with a clone tool (aka rubber stamp tool), or a quick "copy and paste" job, and still look real (unaltered). For removing minor skin blemishes, I'd agree with projectfocus, a slight blur will aleviate most skin blemishes (spots from acne, minor sun spots etc.), but don't over do it, or you'd lose the texture of the skin itself and it may appear fake.

I followed the link that white.funk. posted to her image, and it appeared fine to me. Nothing that make wouldn't/didn't cover up.

ADVICE FOR LINK: You may want to wait until you get home to follow the link that white.funk. has posted (post #1), as when I was searching for other models to compare her photo to find out exactly what she might be looking to edit out, I found some photos that were not safe for viewing at work (and are definately not safe for this site!). Her photo was fine for viewing though. Of course, this is just my humble opinion.
