The problem is simple. I go to start > run > msconfig, and I get a error saying windows cannot find it. I have made no drastic changes to the system at all, and I know enough to not just delete random files. I want to access this because I recently found the BC list of startup programs and I want to make sure I'm down to the bare minimum to help speed up my computer.

I've checked for spyware, ran windows updates, and did a virus scan.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi BurkeGoBoom. Welcome to BC.

I can't answer your question but, if you are running Spybot or Winpatrol, you can check and modify your startups in either of these.

Cheers

Hello,

What happens if you type msconfig.exe in start > run?
I guess you have Windows 98 or ME ? Because otherwise you won't post here.
Can you also look if msconfig.exe is present in this folder:
C:\Windows\System ?

Typing in msconfig.exe produces the same error message. Also, there is no msconfig.exe in the C:\Windows\System folder.

scroll down to the section of msconfig.exe. there is a link to the windows ME msconfig.exe, and you can download it in a zip file, i believe  good luck!
