I would use Active@KillDisk-Drive Wipe Utility to wipe the disk clean. Unlike format it actually overwrites the data total destroying it. When i do a clean install I use a wipe instead of format to clean the hard drive.
When you are finished partition and format the drive prior to clean installing ME.

If you have access to most anyother OS than ME, I would go that route, ME has the reputation of being the biggest mistake that M$ has made to date. I went to my local computer shop and they gave me a copy of W2k Pro with the key for free, I suspect that you could do the same, or at least get it very inexpensively.
On July 11, 2006, MS will end their extended support for W98, W98 2nd edtion, and ME. There wil be no more technical support, or security updates.

Yes. By wiping or formatting your hard drive you will have to completely reinstall ME or whatever OS you went with.
That is what you were asking, yes? Do you have the ME disk that came with the computer?

Before you wipe the disk, make sure that you have your product key. You won't be able to reinstall ME otherwise. (That is, unless it's a restore disk and the product key is automatically taken care of - some do that) You can use Magical Jellybean Keyfinder to find the key if it isn't on a sticker on the side of the machine.

You can also view the Product Key with Everest Home 1.51 or Belarc Diagnostic Tool. If you happen to have one of them loaded.
