Hey,all.

Friend of mine gave me an old Win98 Stinkpad 380ed to look at. It gets as far as Win98 title screen keeps making a noise. Built in pointing stick.

TData error reading drive c
abort, retry, fail?

Registry file not found, registry may be gone.

VxD error, please restart, then it shuts down. he says there's data on it he wants to keep. I do have have 98 on CD. any suggestions?

I will try "Ultimate boot cd", see what that does.

You may have some luck with the UBCD, but I wouldn't count on it. What sort of noise does it make? Are we talking hard drive? Has it got a floppy and do you have a Win 98 startup disk?

I agree with Herk on both points. I don't think UBCD will work on 98. If you have a floppy try BootDisk.com and download a 98 boot disk. When you boot to the A:\ change directory to C:\ and enter C:\Windows|System|sfc.exe. It may request the Win98 CD or it may not.
