Hi all
I have a friend who uses Win 98. She is having a problem whereby her PC always boots up in safety mode. She assures me that she regularly checks for viruses. What could be the reason for this. And how would she get over this prob?
Cheers Vomog

Hi vomog.
Could be hardware\driver related but check the "msdos.sys" file first.
By default it's marked as "read only". Right click it, select properties and remove the tick next to the read only attribute, click ok.
Open the file in notepad or wordpad.
There will be a line that says "BootSafe=", it should be set to 0 (zero) (BootSafe=0).
If it's not, change it and click File>Save. Reset the attributes back to "read only" and reboot.
If there's no problem there, look in device manager for conflicts.
