I bought

I already have hdd, cd/dvdrw, and floppy. I hooked it all up and for some reason it won't power on. There is no switch on the back of the power supply to turn it on or off. Previously it would power on, but I had not purchased the ram, I was using pc2700 ram (two 512 sticks) by two different manufacturers. The video wouldn't display so I bought the new ram, but unfortunatley that didn't allow for the video to display either. When I plug the unit into the wall nothing responds, not the fans, heatsinks, or led lights. I'd really rather fix my problem than purchase new part. If any one could help me figure out what I did wrong, I'd appreciate it. I'm a little new at this so it might have been something simple that I was unaware of.

You need to install 'standoffs' in your case to mount your motherboard on. These are usually little brass pieces that came with the package of screws and fasteners with your case (sometimes they are plastic).

I often see first timers not putting these standoffs in first, then when they mount their motherboards, the motherboards short out against the case.

Damn it, you're right. I didn't install the standoffs. But answer this question though the mother board is designed for ddr400 pc3200, same with the processor - but I just put in my old pc2700 and it turned on, still no video, but the fans were spinning! Does that mean I still shorted it? If so, screw me, I'll have to send it back and get a replacement. If not whoo hoo! I'll install the standoffs (how do you install standoffs anyway?) anyway, the instruction manual for the board didn't say to put in standoffs. sad.gif Or how to either.
Much appreciated for your response - just because the motherboard is shorted is the processor, video card, etc fine? Do I need a larger power supply?

EDIT:
Forget I said anything, you were right.
