My NEC ND-2510A is recognized as a DVD/CD but it is actually a DVD-RW. It shows up as the correct drive in Device Manager. The NEC v2.16 Firmware upgrade failed to find the drive also. What am i missing in this situaltion? blink.gif

Thank you.

hey, lavascript. Welcome aboard. Good question. Why not post that part of your everest report that specs the dvd-rw.. just cut/paste it here so we can see what the deal is. That firmware download is probably needed, too. Lets hope some answers pop up. smile.gif

I checked out your DVD-RW at cdrinfo.com where they tested one of 'em.
In order to perform our tests we used:
1. Nero CD-DVD Speed v3.12
2. CDVD Benchmark v1.21
3. ExactAudioCopy v0.9 beta5
4. Nero Info Tool v2.24
5. KProbe v2.2.0 (Reader: LiteOn LDW-811S firmware vHS0Q, LiteOn SOHD-167T firmware 9S13, LiteOn XJ-HD165H firmware CH11, and LiteOn LTD-163 firmware GH5S, Reading speed 8X CAV)
6. PlexTools v2.15 (Reader: Plextor PX-712A firmware v1.01, Reading speed 8X CLV for CD-R)
7. DVDInfoPro v2.54
8. Nero Burning Rom v6.3.1.17
9. DVD Decrypter 3.2.2.0
10. CopyToDVD 3.0.19.33

You said you have Nero 6. In what ways do the results you get differ from these published ones?
Can you download the programs they used in the test above?

What I'm trying to "get" is this: the problem might be:
  • software needed to allow DVD burning
  • operating system services settings, perhaps
  • if device manager shows it as what it is, and your Everest report does also, then the PC identity error is (?) in Control Panel?
  • hardware installation detail (not likely, I'd think)
Does it fully function even though it shows as dvd/cd?

Yes, it burns CDs and plays DVDs. I'll look into the programs that were tested with it.

So, the function it lacks is burning a DVD and the error is: "recognized as a DVD/CD but it is actually a DVD-RW". Yes, there must be a freeware program available to remedy the problem, if not some setting in shareware that would do it. I ran into similar problems trying to get a movie I checked out of the Library to even play on my Optical Drive_NEC DV-5800A (16x/48x DVD-ROM). It would read DVD's full of data (primarily mp3's) and I could copy to HD, but no luck at all with a simple movie. I've been side-tracked from that issue for a while, now. Sorry I couldn't be of more help to ya' lavascript. Let us know what ya' find, and I'll try to search some more into it, too.

Yes that's exactly the problem.

Thanks again for all of your help. I'll search for the problem (I'll probably use google like crazy lol) and I'll keep you updated by posting on here.

Thank you, lavascript. I google so much sometimes I don't know which end is up. I usually look for the taskbar. tongue.gif Remember, you can put 10 words (without common ones) strung together between " " like a normal sentence & sometimes get different results. Like: "DVD-RW doesn't burn properly" or "Can't make a DVD using a DVD-RW" smile.gif I was told that's "adjusting the search parameters".

Maybe I was missing the obvious, myself. Do you have SP2 installed?
