Partition Problems

Didn't think I'd have to ask questions this darn soon LOL
Just bought a nice 30 gig hard drive. So, had to start from scratch, naturally. Well, I installed MSDOS, then, went & put in ME.
Not, I only have about 2 gigs of hard drive cause of the dumb partitioning, which I don't understand at all :thumbsup:

Also, I now have 2 extra cdroms, d; e; and f; and only have 1 cd rom & 1 dvd/cdrw.
So, now what in the world do I do to get back my hard drive????

Also, does anyone know about a free zip program so I can get stuff downloaded and running properly? Downloaded one, but it is too darn technical. Not that I'm stupid, just old and getting really aggravated w/all this dumb partitioning.

For the zip program you can just evaluate the winzip program. There is also a freeware zip program here that I have not used but has gotten good reviews:

As for your hard drives, those extra drives are probably other partitions on your computer. You can either repartition the hard drive to be one large drive or use the other partition to install the software on.

. Just curious, who makes it? Some, like Maxtor, give you software to help you. I also want to say, once you get the hang of it, partitioning your drives is a great thing to do.

you can keep the OS on one partition
Defragmentation is faster when a smaller partition is involved
You can choose to setup a "Program Files" to put the majority if not all of your programs on. This can help.
You can choose to store some data on a partition other than the one used for "system" that may get less activity, making it what might be called more "stable" or maybe just less active...
You will get used to seeing multiple drives in MyComputer
Drives these days operate so fast that access "between" them is, for all practical purposes, like having just one.

The multiple listing of Optical Drives is an error.
