This issue may occur if one or more of the Jscript registry key settings are incorrect. This behavior may also occur if the Jscript.dll file is missing or damaged. Method 1: Reregister Jscript.dll and Vbscript.dll
Method 2: Edit the registry Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.1. Click Start, and then click Run.

I know this topic is a bit old, but I hope I can still get help...
Anyway, I have a few questions about steps 4, 5, and 6. In the File to restore box, type the name of the file that you want to restore. >>I am trying to fix windows media player, what am I supposed to type in? In the Restore from box, type the path of the Windows XP .cab file where you want to restore the file, or click Browse From to locate the Windows XP .cab file.>>What file do I use? I cannot find any .cab files. In the Save file in box, type the path where you want to extract the new file, or click Browse To to locate the folder that you want. >>Where should I extract the new file? In the windows media player folder? Any help on this would be great! -freakout00 |

Did you try method 1 first? And if so, what happened after you did the regsvr commands?

Hi - I'm having problems with my audio, search companion, and system restore (among other things) since running msconfig last weekend and disabling items in services and startup, also deleted items in regedit (trying to clean up the computer). In the device manager it says there is no audio device. When I try to open Windows Media Player, nothing happens. If I try to open Real Player, it gives me a message "cannot open the audio device. Another appliction may be using it. Also, in msconfig, when you go to startup, Windows Audio is stopped.
I was going to try and follow instructions from Grinler from his post "how to fix windows media player error" (reregister the jscript.dll and vbscript.dll files). I did this with success. But then, when I go into regedit to try and find this registry key hkey_local_machine\softward\classes\CLSID\{f414c260-6ac0-11cf-b6d1-00aa00bbbb58}\In procServer32 to change the value data, the key is not there. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am running Windows XP (2004 Dell Dimension 2400). Thank you! This post has been edited by hipockets: Nov 4 2006, 01:54 PM |

I would suggest you post your problem after you try these steps in a seperate topic.
