I don't believe in life everlasting truly exists for a few reasons. Mainly because humans are afraid of death. It scares people to believe that this is it, that they're slowly dying and that they could be pushin' up daisies any day now. Nobody, apart from the suicidal, wants to die. So why not invent a place where they could live on forever happy and meet up with their lost loved ones who they could otherwise never see again? It soothes people to believe in such a concept, in a nirvana.

I just think it's made up. I'm not atheist really but I'm also not Christian -undecided more like- and I believe that the existence of a God is possible, but I believe the Bible is mostly crap. It was written by humans and humans aren't perfect. They get things wrong, mess things up, and over a few millennia of the Bible being changed by multiple humans... Well anyway, I think any evidence that provides isn't coming from a reliable source.

And about the whole being reborn, reincarnation stuff. I have no idea how that would work. Is everybody a reincarnation of someone else? That couldn't work because there's more people now than there ever was before, so are only some people reincarnations then? That just doesn't seem to make sense either.

I believe we should make the most of the time we have here because it's the only chance we'll get. I don't think we'll live forever in bliss, or at least I won't O_o, so we should be extra careful to be as nice as we can be, work as hard as we can, have fun every chance we get, not dwell on the things that go wrong -because things will always go wrong- and just do what we can for our posterity. Carpe diem and all that.

Yes.

I don't know exactly how things are supposed to work out.
I don't care what the different things are called.
I don't think we're meant to.
However I am a Christian and I believe in a single resurrection after which those saved live under God's blessing on a new Paradise.

I do believe that Stephen Hawking declared the after life "a myth" recently.

I have Stephen Hawking the Universe series on VHS.
Believe me, it is very difficult to comprehend how space, black holes and time works.
Most of the time I don't have clue what they are talking about!

But, if Einstein was right, energy is neither created nor destroyed.

So where does it go and what happens to it?

I guess we will need Michau Kaku to explain that to us.
Much like Carl Sagan explained space in the Cosmos series years ago.

Energy may live on but, I have a hard time believing that energy things, feels, or lives. It may have current, show spark, & be ever lasting. Yet where in a universe where even stars die, I find it hard to think of energy as ever lasting. If science could produce a theory of ever lasting energy why can't we find the formula after 100's of years? To believe in energy transference is just scary, I can't imagine be stuck in an eternally repeating life cycle, or to go from human, to beast when you pass. Then I guess to try to earn the right to live a human life again at some point. It just sounds crazy to me can't even believe I'm typing these thoughts.

Yes ,I do believe in life after death. I believe that my next life will be decided by my actions during this life and that this is how we "grow' spiritually.
For a possible proof of life after death google "11 year old remembers past life". An 11 year old boy remembered being a WW2 pilot and when he met surviving members of the air wing, he knew them and called them by name and was able to recall past events they shared in that previous life.

That's not really 'proof' of anything other than an admittedly unusual set of circumstances.

It's taken me awhile to respond to this Darthy, because it's a subject very near and
dear to my heart, first i've always as long as i can remember believed that there's
a heaven & hell.
The reason tha this is so very near and dear to my heart is that My Daddy passed
away on Feburary 10 2008,We layed him to rest on Feburary 14 2008 with Military honors
If a girl/woman could have had a better Daddy He was it!! and it shattered my heart
into a million lil pieces, I didn't think i'd ever recover...but with time and GOD's
grace I did....
The day My Daddy passed away, it was cold and cloudy,it was very drab and dreary day
as my family gathered around his hospital bed,( I had said my goodbyes the night
before, I just couldn't bring myself to be there to watch him breath his last breath)
Id have been on the 8th floor(physc ward) anyway, at a lil after 2:00P.m. My daddy
did breath his last breath, and as he did sunlight shot thru his hospital room window
and landed right on him, He raised his arm's and went to be with MY LORD,after , when my family came to my house they told me what had happened, they felt OUR LORDS presence in Daddy's hospital
room, something that my baby brother and his sweet wife had never experienced before
at the moment of Daddy's passin, I know as well as i'm sittin here that The LORD swun
him by my house, I could feel his presence as i whispered out the kitchen window,
LOVE you Daddy and I'll take good care of them just like I always have, I was makin
Daddy's favorite soup( Kale and chorizo ) and cornbread in his honor for my family at
the time.
I know where My Daddy is, and with love and time, because that's the only things that
can heal a wound this deep, He's no longer in pain( He passed away from cancer), He
knows more love then he's ever known his whole life and knowin that he's that happy
I wouldn't deny him that for anything, and I know that one day I will see him again
You know it's said, That GOD only cries for the living, because there the ones sooo
far away from home... I think that's true.... do i have proof....nope not one spect
all I have is what my heart and soul know to be true.

Why does there have to be a "god' to have an afterlife?

I meant to keep out of this one, but that question intrigues me.

A God isn't necessary, and you could for example take an animistic position. It is even more confusing since what constitutes a "god" varies widely between religions. Nonetheless an afterlife necessitates some kind of immaterial entity be part of a person, as nothing material goes on after death. Call it a soul or spirit if you will. When you're free of the forced materialism that mocks all discussions of the supernatural, it is much easier to make room for a god of some kind who is made up of the same sort of stuff that the soul is made of.
The arguments for and against different deities then becomes a religious debate, and the evidence for a specific God speaks for itself.

Not if you're a Hindu, Buddhist, or Animist.

@JosiahK... exactly, .... sort of. I don't think the possibility of an afterlife requires any sort of deity. What about the possibility of a supreme deity, and no afterlife? It is always presented as 'god' = 'afterlife', 'no god' = 'no afterlife'. What a curiously restrictive point of view. Life is not dichotomous; why should the possibility of afterlife be dichotomous?

@MissPlaced, says who?

If there is no `afterlife` what is the point in being born to die?
