There is an interesting product around, Site Advisor. I read how it was developed, why, and how it works. Good reading, in my opinion.
It also inclues a test. I got 4/8 wrong  Most people fail the test.

We've used it a little bit so far at work, and it's flawless. It has a clear privacy policy. It installs and uninstalls cleanly. It adds a little toolbar on the Internet Explorer which helps you evaluate whether you really want to open/deal with a site based on their annoyance score. It shows every site and sites linked to it in green or red, a splendid invention.

BTW, Bleeping Computer comes out 100% clean, as expected, in spite of all the cookies we get fed from photobuckets and other such. And several people wrote nice comments about BC there. Oh, they do keep opinions and officially built information separate, so it's not blogs or anything like that. Serious product designed by professors.

I read in Office Watch that McAffee is buying it. But we can still get a free download here: http://www.siteadvisor.com/

This really is a quick and easy way to know if you are in a clean site, or otherwise.

It is also available for Firefox.

McAfee's SiteAdvisor is really powerful, sleak addition to my Firefox Fortress and has warned me about several bad sites that I might've stumbled into without it. This extension in conjunction with a few others such as NoScript, AdBlock, etc. make Firefox an invincible and divine choice from a web browser.
