Hi!

I'm using GIMP to put text onto a picture, and I have two questions regarding the layers that are used to do this. I know how to create a NEW layer to put the text on, but once the layers are merged and I want to change something on one of the layers, I don't know how to seperate them again. How do I change between the layers?

EDIT:

I just wanted to add that I've already read the tutorial that comes with GIMP, and I've looked over the layers section of the other tutorial that was recommended here for someone else that needed help with GIMP. I believe it was called Grokking. I'm still not sure how to do this, and I've tried playing around with it for awhile and don't seem to be getting anywhere. Can you PLEASE help me?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Michele

Hi Michele,
Once you save the image with a standard file format like jpg, gif or bmp the layering information is lost - you cannot seperate the layers again. To preserve layer information so you can edit it later you must save a copy of the image in a file format which supports layers such as the GIMP native format xcf.
