Look through the Add/Remove Programs listing for an "Updater" - may be Apple, or it may be iTunes (or something else related to it). Let us know so we can be sure it's the right one

HI again: firstly, thank you for taking the time out to help, it's much appreciated to everyone who tries to help, it's really kind of you. Secondly, I scanned my "add/remove" programs - all I have is "iTunes" - there's no "updater" anywhere - nothing under Itunes or apple or updater - it just doesn't exist on my computer, no "updater" listed under anything. Is that normal? I have, in msconfig, an iTunes "helper" - but I have unclicked that so it doesn't load in startup. But no sign of any updater anywhere. I had also removed the hotkey utility program, and when I went to reload it using the Toshiba recovery disk that came with my laptop, it doesn't work - the cd just spins and spins and then an error message shows up - anyone know where I can download that?

OK... i *think* i may have found a solution.

i own a Toshiba Portege R205. i've been having the same problem on and off for months - namely, screen brightness (FnF6/F7) and wireless (FnF8) hotkeys stopped working for some reason. I don't know what causes the Hotkeys to disappear - the only programs i've updated or installed recently were iTunes and AVG Internet Security.

Until today, the only thing that fixed my hotkey issues was a repair install of XP (not fun).
This is how i got my hotkeys back:

(1) i unselected ALL iTunes and Quicktime autoruns/startups (don't think it had much impact on the fix)
(2) i went to Toshiba's European website, download webpage:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi....jsp?service=EU
(3) i downloaded and installed the following:

Select Driver Type: Common Module v.6.02.02 (15/11/07)
Select Driver Type: Hotkey Utilities for Display Devices v.2.8.0.0-00 (28/04/05)
Select Driver Type: Wireless Hotkey v.2.0.0.5 (29/07/05)
Select Driver Type: Zooming Utility v.2.0.0.20A (28/04/05)

(4) i rebooted the laptop - all Fn Hotkeys are functional!

Hope this helps...!
.

I'm new to this site (joined up a couple of days ago), hoping to find a way to finally GET RID of the incredibly irritating "runtime error" & "Toshiba Flash Cards have stopped working" error messages that have been popping up every time I started up my A205 Satellite over the last 6 months. Wish I had come here sooner--because I see now that a lot of people have been having this problem since at least 2006! (10,0000+ views tells you something, doesn't it?) And many of them--like me--noticed it after installing i-Tunes.

I had disabled Flash Cards months ago, uninstalled i-Tunes shortly after that, but neither of those steps stopped the error messages. Tonight, however, right here on Bleeping Computer, I learned about unchecking Flash Cards in Start-up--and by golly, it works!! Well, the hotkeys don't work, but those good-for-nothing messages are gone! Tomorrow, I'll try JetSetGirl's advice for reinstalling some utilities from Toshiba's website and see if I can get the hot keys to function properly. But in the meantime, it's sheer heaven to be free of those error messages.

My thanks to all of you for sharing your problems and your possible answers. Your help is most appreciated--and it's nice to know I'm not alone in this struggle!
