I know going forward is the trend but I don't need games, movies, media, or anything like that. I need Windows Office and a navigation program for my boat. The Sony Vaio I own can work fine for me if I changed it to 98 or 2000 professional.

How can I do that? Are the program discs available?

You can check places like eBay for it. Here's the cheapest price I found using PriceGrabber.

From personal experinence I would install Window 2000 Pro. It has the security and stability of XP Pro (well most of it) and can run on computers with light resources. I have it running on several P-II and P-III machines. I like to refer to it a XP Lite. Make sure you have all your up daaates and security setup before just jumping on the internet (SP4, Antivirus, firewall, antispyware, and a router/NAT if you have HSI).
