Want To Run On-line Games With Out Disableing Security love joint opps but not viruses

all games run well on my xp pent 4
but i have to disable my norton security
i get a xxxx load of security pop ups when it is enabled
i love the game but dont want to risk virus
anyone know on a condom that will keep me safe while playing
or a way to stop remote systems from attempting to access my computer on and/or off-line
i have heard norton sucks and will change if i find something that will let me play in peace

I use Sygate Personal Firewall, which takes minimal resources, and does not interfere whilst on-line gaming (currently, WOW, as an example), once properly configured. Links to this and other software firewalls can be found here:

I disable my antivirus while playing on-line. The good thing about having separate firewalls, anti-viruses, and anti-spyware applications is that you can manage each one. Norton seems to have some problems and some people say it is a resource hog.
