Hi, I have an Asus P4PE-X TE. On it are a P4 2,4-533, 256MB and an ATI VGA. When I turn everything on I get warning sounds from the pc speaker. They sound like an old english police car siren, not sure how else to describe them (like a two-tone sound). They repeat 4 or 5 times then a couple of seconds break and start again. Needless to say the PC doesn't boot. I have tried all components in another board and they work fine. I have also tried a P4 2,8-800 but with the same results....
any ideas?

If it sounds like a police car siren it will be cpu problem, so either it is dead or the board just doesn't seem to read the cpu. really something to be alarmed about ;P

best thing to do would be to check on asus's site for supported processors or latest bios updates

Regards Futs

the only time I've heard sirens on my PC it was a crummy anti-spyware program I promptly uninstalled.

This is something that would trouble me. too. I once had to check, for my own sake, exactly what happens when you turn the power on. There is a definate sequence of events involved in the Power On Self Test (POST) that will indeed prevent booting if there is a problem such as you describe. thread here at BC, check for a link within it

EDIT: That thread is long & ramblin' better yet check here

When I have sounds coming from my mobo, I try to eliminate as many possible problems.

Remove the video and sound cards.
Remove all of the RAM, except for one in slot 0.

Try it with this configuration.

I will see if I can provide a link to your mobo later today.

Everything does seem to be pointing to the CPU slot though.

Good luck
