FYI: SyGate personal free edition is still available thru Major Geeks. Symantic does not support it anymore. That is not that big of a problem with all of the users, and unoffical support from the different forums like BleepingComputer.com.

AVG Free is my anti-virus of choice. Norton costs too much and caused havoc on my computer when I tried to uninstall it. I also replaced the firewall with Zone Alarm Free. XP is ok I've heard issues involving the upgrades on Dell systems but that was using the original XP that Dell was handing out with new computers during the XP delay's

I just finished with the hard drive wipe , Xp install , memory upgrade and all the stuff you suggested , such as anti-virus etc. .... Everything seemed to go smooooooth due to your advice

Just one quick question or two

Is the firewall on XP good enough or do I need to use Zone Alarm ???

How do I know the new memory stick is working ???

I can say one thing this computer is sooooo fast now ...... :flowers: :trumpet: :inlove:

No. XP's firewall is better than nothing but it is a far cry from any of the other freeware firewalls. While I use SyGate, but ZA is an excellent choice and I believe it will serve youwell.

You can go to the Task Manager>Preformance and it will be displayed there.

Of course....what did you expect form BleepingComputer?
