There are a lot of software that you can use to improve the look and feel. I suppose you use Windows as Mac users dont complain abt this.

Stardock offers a variety of products, a lot of them, like Windowblinds and DesktopX

StyleXp

Microsoft has released Royale, a classy theme that you can use without adding any software

Get themes for all these software from:
_http://www.wincustomize.com/

[Simply google 'windows themes']

The one I prefer as an alternate shell is LITESTEP. It is a great one and is free!

Get its theme from here:

Also great works, here, my Fav one being the NonStep theme for Litestep

Now I am using FlyakiteOSX theme. Its a great one, very less bugs and very neat interface. Offers full transformation.
Get more mac emulators here

I think there are softwares enabling you to emulate Vista/Longhorn. I donno much about them. Read somewhere that Vista icons are good.

Thnx
Not a comprehensive list, I may be missing a lot of things.
