WARNING!
Members should be aware that every caution should be taken when using CCleaner or any kind of powerful cleaning application. The deletion of recommended files should be carefully reviewed, since the action could make certain applications either not function or not function properly. Absolutely avoid any registry changes, and always be sure that any action you may take is reversible.
Regards,
John

Very interesting and useful thread, but this post catch my eye.

I got a bunch of problems with my laptop (and vice versa ;p)..and I am using CCleaner almost every day,I can't tell what caused some files missing, but I am pretty much sure I deleted some of them - because I do not know what I am doing! Using CCleaner helps my laptop to run better, temporary, but I would like to learn more,so

is there a thread about CCleaner with the list what should be deleted with ccleaner and what should not ?
(How an important (&system ) file can end there?)

Also, after scan for issues,I got message issue could not be fixed ,look for registry key...or something like that, but I have no idea where to look !

Thank you ,and keep a good work guys, you are helping a lot! thumbup.gif

Hello,
First i would like to thank you for your efforts at this site. IT was recommended to me by my father in-law whom you seemed to have helped immensely. My Wife's computer seems to be running slower than usual. My father in law told me that i should download hijack this and run and save a log file and post it to this site for a helpful user to analyze. My question is: where do i post the log file.

Things i have done:
Defrag,
Clean up old files (disk cleanup)
delete unused programs

Things I use to protect the computer:
avast!
SUPER antisypware

Some obvious things that i can see:
When i close the internet, sometimes the the screen for the browser goes away very slowly. I can sometimes see each individual line getting deleted revealing the desktop behind it. (i use firefox)

Also the internet and other programs such as word just seem to run and load slowly.

Please, when you get the chance, direct me to the correct forum where i can have the hijack this log file analyzed so i can figure out what to do.

Again,
Thank you so much, if i can get this thing running right i would love to make a donation for your services.
Rick

Hello there rickyv911, welcome to Bleeping Computer.

Please try a couple of these free online scanners to see if anything has slipped by your protection:
(Be advised that some of these scanners will pickup things in "quarantine" from other anti-virus programs - so review the results carefully)

If you find that you're infected (or the scan doesn't complete or closes unexpectedly), post in the Am I Infected forum located here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum103.html

regards,

The weatherman

My computer seems to launch program slowly, for example when i log into my computer my verizon security suite which is a startup loads slowly, i almost have to wait 1 minute for it to pop up. It use to take only 2 seconds. And another is example once I log into my computer when i launch firefox i have to wait like 30 seconds. For some reason when my computer is left running for like 10 minutes it begins to pick up its speed and lanuches everything fast.

Any ideas

QUOTE(Enthusiast @ Mar 11 2006, 09:13 AM) *
Thre is a small ap named Startup Inspector that is superior to using the Microsoft utility msconfig to regulate your start menu as it shows you for the most part what each ap is, its name and the ap it is connected to and lessens the chance of stopping one that may be inportant to keep.(like an av program or firewall)

http://www.windowsstartup.com/

It also lessens the chance of changing the mode in which your computer starts from normal mode to ? as is easy to do with masconfig.

I am very leery of purchasing or downloading anything that uses improper spelling and/or grammar, as does the startup inspector program and the startup monitor. I have read some of these software programs with misspelled words, etc. (especially antispam programs) frequently contain spam, trojans or other things that may compromise the integrity of our computers. We are cautioned that, in an email, improper grammar, spelling and sentence structure are typical of phishing or of containing a virus, etc. and to delete it without clicking on any links. And if the misspelled words are in the subject line, we are told not to open that email and just delete it.

So, why should I trust the Startup Inspector?

btw, what is "masconfig"?

I'm just trying to learn...

Also I wanted to add that it is worthwhile to take a look at malwarebytes. It is very good and finding and removing unwanted spyware/malware. Adaware works well as well. There's no one stop but to date if i had to choose one it would be malwarebytes. just my 2 cents.

DO yall know that there is no sure fire way to stop a virus. Viruses are coming out new and fresh all the time. I had that pop up window telling me i had a bunch of spyware. But i always clicked off of it, now i am glad i did. From what i hear it is quite the pain in the kneck. I have a motto, when in doubt dont click that box!! I had a virus on my computer which i had to eventually change out my hard drive and use the system restore disc. I really hate hackers, i would like to hunt them down and smash their computer over their head!!!

Seriously though i run a firewall, anti-virus, spyware. But i really wish software developers would come up with a way to stop hackers. I mean here you have professional experts who go to school for years. And they dont even have a way to really stop these hackers. Ok i am going to give away my secret because i doubt i will get the chance to make the software. What needs to happen is the software people need to put a filter between the pc and the net. All the info from the net goes into the filter, it never even does into the pc. So if there is a virus the filter could be ruined but the computer is left unharmed. Kind of like a shield, which takes all the beating.

I suppose it would be kind of like an extra hard drive(the filter that is) I know i am only a intermediate computer person, but the theory makes sense. From what i understand of the who transferring of packets i mean.
