Task Manager (Win7) tells me that sidebar.exe, plugin-container.exe (Plugin Container for Firefox), and Akamai NetSession Client are using lots of CPU and I/O at startup, so much so that they are making my hard drive go ticky-tick for several minutes after startup

What does each of these do, and can I trash them without undue harm? Several sources tell me I can happily get rid of Akamai NetSession Client, is this true?

Tasklist.org says this about sidebar.exe: "Recommendation: Definitely not required" (Is Tasklist.org still considered reliable?)
