I recently installed windows xp. Now I don't have the needed drivers for my cable modem to get on the internet. I have an ACER Aspire E380 computer and a Motorola SB5100 modem. The cable co. said go to Acer and download their drivers I did but cant get the computer to install them. I called Acer and they said the drivers I needed for XP would cost me over $100.00 for the info. I know there is a way to get this computer back on the internet. If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

if the modem in my link is the one you are using it requires no drivers to work ,my cable company uses the exact same modem and i need no drivers for it ,what you need is drivers for you network device in the computer.its not a fax modem its a cable modem .
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Surfboard-SB5100-Cable-Modem/dp/B00008Y1BX .

acer has 5 different drivers to choose from,4 for winxp so you/we need the speccy results to see exact model network device you have to get the right driver .choose winxp from the operating system box
http://support.acer.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=308

use speccy to see what network device your computer has ,a how to use Speccy in below link

I also have a Motorola SB5100 (Time-Warner Cable) and it requires no drivers to be installed.

What you probably need...are the ethernet drivers, which enable the system to properly communicate with the modem.

But...there are 3 "modem drivers" listed at the link supplied by caperjac. The 3d one is for XP and Motorola device.
