BleepingComputer.com: Windows XP/WHS and 3TB Drives

Greetings,

Not sure if I have the right forum, but I own a MediaSmart ex490 and am attempting to add a 3TB drive to the 3th bay. Unfortunately, the drive only recognizes 746.51GB. I am running Windows Home Server on the ex490, and have had no trouble adding the other 2TB drives into it. The 3TB is a WD30EZRXSP.

How do I get XP and WHS to recognize the full 3TB?

Is the drive formatted?

It came pre-formatted from Amazon - the drive reads and could probably accept data right out of the box.

Please go to Disk Management and post a screenshot.

Start/Run...type diskmgmt.msc and hit Enter.

My own take...XP cannot see a single partition (not drive) that fits the parameters noted. That doesn't mean that the drive cannot be split into more than one partition, IMO.

Sinc my largest hard drive is 1.5TB, I cannot verify my thoughts. But I would deleted the existing partition structure on any drive larger than 2TB...then format such drive into at least 2 partitions, with neither being larger than 2TB.
