Hi, I seem to be experiencing problems with internet access at the moment from my desktop computer.

We have virginmedia's cable internet service and I have had to reset the router (D-Link DIR-615) earlier during the day. I then changed the SSID and the password to a new one.

My laptop connects fine under the new SSID however my desktop computer is being very sporadic. It was on and off during the day very occasionally offering full internet access while other times not even being able to connect to 192.168.0.1 despite showing that it is "Connected" under the new SSID. Sometimes it shows "Limited Access" although mostly it shows that the connection is fine but just refusing to load any page. I use Google Chrome. The OS is Win 7 Home Premium.

It experiences problems and does not connect under "Safe Mode with Networking" either.

Built-in diagnostics in Windows seems to think that the problem lies with router settings.

I have run ipconfig /all on my desktop which gives the following:

I would appreciate any comment on this matter. I have looked online but there is a host of similar problems from other people all with different solutions so I thought I would rather ask for expert opinion before continuing.

Oh, also. May I add that my desktop occasionally drops connection to the router too, and refuses to re-connect for a few minutes before re-connects itself again, not always with internet access as a result.

The desktop is upstairs from the router but directly above it.

Well since the problem is both on wired or wireless with the router as access point, have you tried directly connecting to the ISP modem/router first?

Wired connection is fine. Sorry if I gave the wrong impression. I tried connecting the desktop to the router via an Ethernet cable earlier and it worked fine.

Both my desktop and my laptop use wireless connections. The laptop works fine on Windows XP. The desktop does not (on Win 7).

If its a sporadic problem with the desktop using USB wireless adapter considering its from a questionable range and interference possibly, try checking the laptop on the same location of your desktop. New SSID means same password and security settings? Did you try removing the previous network profile that was created on the desktop's USB wireless adapter pertaining to the same home network?

Yes, the laptop works from the same location and has no problem with the speed of internet connection.

Just an update. It would seem that my wireless card has broken down and malfunctioned. I will purchase a new one tomorrow and post an update of the situation here. Thanks for your patience. :chef:

That would be the most practical cause of a sporadic connection. Thanks for updating back. :)

Hi, it would seem that the problem was with the old wireless adapter. The new one seems to have fixed the problem.

Sorry about wasting your time. Thanks for your help.
