Please provide EXACT details of exactly what is happening, when it happens, and what led up to it. The more information we have, the better our chances of helping you.

computer starts black screen appears and says, \Windows\System32\Drivers\klauekk.sys
0xc0000225

Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt.

I have been using the recovery cd and it doesn't repair. Also I can't get command prompt to run sfc /scannow

thanks for the help.

Are you able to start the computer in Safe Mode?
If it looks like I know what I'm doing, there's a pretty good chance the only reason for that is because
I once asked someone to run chkdsk /r and a BC Advisor smacked me in the back of the head.

Did you or the computer do anything right before this problem started, such as hardware or software install, uninstall, update, malware, drivers, etc.?

Also, are you sure you've spelled the file name correctly?

nothing installed and yes name is correct. I ran virus check from recovery cd and it found and removed a virus. I was going to try downloading a cd and boot from it and then save my files and then reinstall.

Clearly the problem was viral. And I agree a clean install may very well be your best option at this point. When you do the installation, be sure to delete the system partition and then recreate it before formatting.

:welcome:

Lets give it a try. You will need a USB (Flash) pendrive.

For x32 (x86) bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.
For x64 bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to a flash drive.

Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.

Enter System Recovery Options.

To enter System Recovery Options from the Advanced Boot Options:
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until Advanced Boot Options appears.
  • Click on Repair your computer menu item.
  • Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next.
  • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
  • Select your user account and click Next.

On the System Recovery Options menu you will get the following options:

Startup Repair
System Restore
Windows Complete PC Restore
Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
Command Prompt

  • Select Command Prompt
  • In the command window type in notepad and press Enter.
  • The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
  • Select "Computer" and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
  • In the command window type e:\frst.exe (for x64 bit version type e:\frst64) and press Enter
Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
  • The tool will start to run.
  • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your reply.

Thanks for the help. I booted up last night with Puppy Linux Live CD and I was able to back up all the important files I wanted to save. Now I'm going to try to reinstall the OS and should be back up and running tomorrow. Again Thanks.
