GTX 580 or XFX R7950

I'm basically upgrading my video card and I can't decide on these 2 cards.. I do allot of pc fps and 3rd person gaming more then my console!! and my LIMIT is $550.00 NOTHING MORE.

I am partial to nVidia, because ive had nothing but bad experiences with ATI/AMD.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

Sad to say me to.. that's why I switch to nvidia. But this card seems pretty good. But I want the best out of these 2 cards.

when it comes to computer hardware the best is often what you can afford.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

Well my price range is only $550 and it's out of these 2 cards

I would go with nVidia.

I'd go AMD with the Radeon 7000 series. Compared to the GTX 580, the 7950 are near equal in most games. With the 7950, it achieves this at stock speeds and has good overclocking potential. Aside from this, the only major differences between the two cards, are the power draw and heat generation. Oddly, I switched over to AMD from Nvidia due to driver issues. I haven't had any recently on AMD, but, if you buy multiple cards and play newly released games, application profiles are not released very quickly.

But I thought the 580 Classified beats the XFX R7950? Now I don't know

The stock GTX 580 is about the same performance as the 7950, the OC'd 580 goes a little above it. You can OC the 7950 and go past the OC'd 580. Or, for $550 the 7970 will be guaranteed to outperform the 580, if you can find one in stock.

After careful looking I decided to go with the 7970 simple because it's the same price as the 580 Classified and Preforms better. Can anyone tell me is this store/Site is reliable. Provantage.com

Personally, Id go with the 7000 series, though I wouldnt touch the xfx card with a 10 foot pole-seen to many of those go out, Id choose a saphire or ASUS 7950 myself, the quality of workmanship and cooling design from those two companies from what Ive seen are far superiour.

I usually prefer Diamond Multimedia, Sapphire, and Asus when it comes to GPU's, though, they are all mostly the same. Keep in mind that the Radeon 7000 series is brand new, so expect stock shortages and the occasional markup.
