I have a laptop with a wireless NIC and the nic shows it's working in device manager. When I try to scan for a wireless network with a wireless network running in my house, it doesn't see it. I then put in a USB plug in wireless NIC to see if I could make that work. It didn't either.

Additionally, there is another issue that seems odd. I was loaned this laptop by a business. When it is connected via a patch cable to their network, I can get to the internet. When I took it home, after the wireless try failed, I connected it to my router via a patch cable and it still can't get to the internet. Other pcs at my home can access the internet. I am posting this from a different pc, using that same wireless network.

Thanks in advance for any help; I hope someone can offer advice.

Run MiniToolBox and checkmark the following:
.Report IE Proxy Settings
.List Content of Hosts
.List IP Configuration
.List Winsock Entries
.List Last 10 Event Viewers

Click Go and a notepad(result.txt) will appear. From Edit menu, Select All then from Edit again, Copy and Paste the result here.
