Mod Edit: Split from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic396555.html ~ Hamluis.

We are having to do a recovery because my granddaughter changed her mom's password (admin) by the time Mom got home from work the child forgot what she changed it to. We have tried everything. So I did the ALT+f10 thing and I get the same thing, it's needs the Empower password. What the Blank good is that when you don't remember your password or someone changed it! If you're doing a recovery it's to completely reset the system, it's going to erase the password! I've done this on almost all brands of computer since 1974 and this is the first time I have ever seen or heard of needing a password to recover a system! Since It's out of warranty I'm going to suggest she go buy a new system disk and never recommend an Acer again! If I go through the system on her daughter's account and find out if it can be upgraded to Win 7, would I be able to do that? Without an Admin password?

Why not just make a new account if you can get in through your daughters account? This site is prob strict about info regarding removing passwords and stuff, as far as updating the system i think it will still ask for your password.
