You can check your bill or your recent phone calls.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

If it's a local call and you don't have caller ID,If you know the persons name,you can call 411(information, this maybe cost you a small fee) and they can give you the phone number unless it's an unlisted number....

If your phone is thru your ISP (cable provider).You may be able to view your call list online.
This is also available with Cell phones. Maybe not all but it is with mine.

So how must you find a phone number is not so difficult.
When you have call a secret number, than can you make a note of that phone number.
