I did not want to say it before...but I saw that install date and thought pretty much the same thing.

I wqould find it rather phonomenal that nothing has occurred previously...which mandated a clean install.

The fact that you have had programs ("optimizers") installed which may have damaged/deleted key files...would be reason enough for me to do a clean install, if the system began to malperform.

You may have had other programs installed (at some time) which passed themselves off as beneficial, when, in truth, they were detrimental to your system.

OK, I can understand that a fresh install might be the solution. Question is how do I do that? As mentioned previously, XP came pre-installed and I was only provided with a recovery disk.

I will prepare by doing a fresh backup of all data and I have disks for most of the key programs.

If your recovery mechanism installed by the system manufacturer...is all you have...that's the procedure intended by manufacturer to be employed.

Have you tried removing Norton yet to see if that is the cause?

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.
