I use Windows Vista and my harddrive space keeps randomly changing from 312GB of available memory to 303GB of available memory. For example, at 6 PM, I check my harddrive and it says 305GB of available memory. At night, around 12AM, I check it again and it says 303GB of available memory.

Hard Drive space keeps fluctuating

Are you using System Restore?
What makes you think that the space available/used at any point in time...should be constant?
If you use a browser, there's activity as long as the browser is open by virtue of temp Internet files.
Hibernation uses the hard drive.
And so on.

Well I assumed that Hard Drive space is like a bucket of water. It doesn't change much unless you do make it change. I don't use Hibernation, and is a browser really constantly fluctuating the Hard Drive Space by several gigs?

1) That isn't enough of a difference to worry about
2) Why are you constantly checking how much free space you have?
3) Terminology: Hard Drive = space
RAM = Memory

Well, number one clears up my suspicions.
I keep checking because on Wikipedia, it says the Vundo virus changes the size of the file to keep from being detected.
And yeah I mean space.

And btw, I agree with hamluis that we're probably looking at system restore utilizing the space. You can always download and run an app such as treesize (http://www.jam-software.com/freeware/) to see exactly what is taking up the space.
And as far as the constant checking, you do have a good, active anti virus app installed, yes?
