What a great team these guys are!!! I want to know a couple things, for me and for any other users who need to know. The only programs we need for great protection are Avast and MalwareBytes, true? I did a boot scan and it found four corrupted items, Two corrupt CAB files and the partner files of both, are corrupt. However in the log, I can't find the reference to them. I am assuming that Avast deleted them. I wasn't asked what to do in these cases.

I am off to get rid of Avira and SuperAntiSpyware from this machine. Reinstalled it earlier today just to see, and it drug everything to a stand still, uninstalled it and all is well.

I use both avast and Malwarebytes on my wife and daughter's computer. I also have SuperAntispyware installed as a stand-alone scanner for second opinions.

I have used Avira for a number of years as well as MBAM and installed both on my daughters' and grandkids computers. After the last two weeks of fighting with this other laptop that the team helped me with, I have a new healthy respect for Avast. I have an icon for installing SAS on my desk top, in case.

That means it could be there for weeks, months and never used. Then when needed, malware could block the installation and if it were successfully installed, you could be using an outdated version and most certainly would be using an outdated database which minimizes the number of detections. In many cases, the malware will block the updating of such tools or be responsible for loss of Internet connection altogether. Installing and using periodically, helps to ensure the database stays up to date to maximize your chances of removing threats.
