Optimize New Computer Bloatware removal, start up optimization, etc

Hi,

I just got a new computer and would like advice with respect to optimizing it in terms of bloatware removal, start up improvement, etc. Some details about the machine are listed below:

* Brand: DELL XPS 8300
* Processor: Intel Core i7-2600 processor(8MB Cache, 3.4GHz
* Memory: 12GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHZ, 2x4GB/2x2GB
* OS: Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, English, No Media
* Storage: 500GB Serial ATA 2 Hard Drive 7200 RPM
* Video: AMD Radeon HD 6770
* Sound: X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCIe

For cleaning out the usual OEM Bloatware take a look at the aptly named PC Decrapifier.

Make sure you verify what it is that the tool suggests to remove before committing to removal. Once it's gone it's gone.

I'm sure others will have their suggestions for what to clean up as well.

Have a look at what is running at startup by using msconfig. I only have firewall & a/v running at startup. Guide to msconfig for Windows 7 here: http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_win7.html
