I've installed a copy of puppy linux on a flash drive using Universal USB Installer http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/

boot, setup, use, all perfectly easy. On exit it saved config to flash drive but has left a 100Mb partition on my hard drive called SYSTEM RESERVE . is this a swap created by puppy or was it part of Win7. (guess i should have looked before)

I was hoping for something that would run independent of the internal hard drive .

It probably saved the setup info to your hard drive rather than the thumb drive. That's the default. Rather, it was the default at one time.

I haven't used Puppy in years. But I seem to recall there was a choice of where to save it when shutting down. Does that no longer exist?

Last time I ran it I used a multisession DVD. I left the session open and booted from the same DVD it would write to when shutting down. The file it leaves is so small that I was able to use the same one for a long, long time.

SYSTEM RESERVE is most likely a Win7 partition, especially if the file system used is NTFS!

yes it is NTFS and I am thinking it is Win7 also. In another thread someone put up a screen shot of Disk Management and they also had a SYSTEM RESERVE partition. It could also belong to Acer as this is an Acer laptop.

That is a normal setup of Windows 7: It has nothing to do with Puppy ... or Acer.
