Hello everyone!

I have a few objectives/goals I want to accomplish.

1) De-fragment my hard-drive, without taking several hours to do.
2) Clean up the registry files that are:
A) missing uninstall files
B) files that have been deleted and therefore cannot be found.
C) files are corrupted.
D) do not know which file to attach them to.
3) Repair any bad spots on hard drive.
4) clean out the temporary files.

Are there any Free software programs that can do these things?

In addition to using Windows Disk Cleanup (an utility found in Accessories), I do some manual clean up and archiving of old text and media files. More often than not, mucking around with registry cleaners can lead to major problems without really improving computer speed or space, so I leave the registry alone. It is also helpful to have your physical hard drive divided into several logical drives: one for the operating system and applications, and another for storage; this way you can defrag either separately.

You can use scandisk before defragging and have it repair any file problems it finds.

Hello everyone,

I have a question about old files from programs that are: Out dated and have been up date many times, deleted and some files still remain, and programs that I no longer use.

My first question is: How can I determine if any of these files or programs are needed for the proper functioning of my computer?

Second question: If one of them is needed and is accidentally deleted, Would it be safe to restore the computer from a restore point to fix it?

Third question: How do I partition my Hard drive into different sections?


I know my hard drive already is partitioned into 2 sections already. "Drive C:" = the main section and "Drive D:" = used for recovery.
Drive D: is almost full. So I have been using some of "Drive C:" for the auto-backing up of some of my programs. If it is going to take several hours to Defragment my "drives", then I will just have to let it do it while I sleep and then turn it off when I get up in the morning.

You can try running MiniToolBox
Checkmark : List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory Sizes
Click Go and a notepad(result.txt) will appear. From Edit menu, Select All then from Edit again, Copy and Paste here the result.

There is nothing much of programs listed that is needed to be uninstalled. Except of course in your case, if there are programs from the list you want to know if its needed to be removed. Its always best to asked before doing anything. If you want to resize your hard drive -
