An issue with my new graphics card R6870 hawk 1 gig graphics card

I just bought a R6870 Hawk and I've been having a strange problem. Everytime I launch a game the resolution of that game is locked at it's lowest (So pretty much 640 x 480 for most games).
I have attempted using multiple driver versions from the ATI site and the ones offered at the MSI site. I can run most games I just have no control over the resolution.
I used driver cleaner and installed the latest drivers from the MSI site and when that didn't work I decided to come here for help.

Any help would be appreciated.

Asus M2N-E : Motherboard
R6870 Hawk 1 gig : Graphics Card
athlon ii x4 955 be : CPU
4 gigs of ram
120 gig harddrive + 2 externals (1 tb & 750 gig)
Windows XP Sp2
600 watt : PSU
