I see you are using Symantec Products, lets temporarily remove them via the following: Norton/Symantec Removal Tool

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

I downloaded the Norton/Symantec Removal tool from your link above and completed removal of Norton Anti Virus 2011.

Last month I had removed Norton AV 2011 via control panel and Add/remove programs and have been running MS Essential since then.

I have done everything on BC's "slow computer" checklist and the conclusions drawn from it was I needed more RAM. Currently the computer has 512 MB on XP Home Edition. The computer WAS running much faster after completing the checklist.

The computer is now at snails pace due to mistakenly installing the registry cleaner ARO2011_tbt.exe.


I do not see the point of downloading Autoruns and removing Norton since the computer was running much faster before installing the registry cleaner. What's the point? If re-formatting the disks and re-installing Windows is the fix, then perhaps I should proceed with that.

I was trying to avoid the reformat since that is a last resort fix, so I would get more RAM and then reformat and reinstall Windows.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

I have reformatted the disks and re-installed Windows like 4 times on this system. I have just about all the data backed up and it's not a big deal to me.

I rather do the reformat and re-installthen purchase more RAM and have this same problem. If reformatting and re-installing don't resolve these issues I may elect to purchase another computer.

This computer is 6+ years old, may not be worth investing any money into it.

Reformatted the disks and re-installed Windows over the weekend. Everything is golden now.
