Keyboard locks up.

Hi All

Friends laptop keyboard will lockup. It is a HP laptop model G72-259WM. I was able to hook up a usb keyboard to log into computer but it will also lock up when I tried to do some typing in Word. Uninstalled keyboard from device manager and everything worked ok for two weeks and it started acting up again. Had him uninstall keyboard again from device manager. For now it is working ok. Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Does it mean that the laptop's keyboard is unusable or it also locks up or the computer freezes?

Keyboard locks up. Can move mouse around a click.

How about using the mouse to open programs, are they still functional? Try booting to safemode and check the lockup issue. The issue is only on a specific program using the keyboard?

Have you tried trouble shooting the device when it's locked up?

Control Panel
Click on arrow next to "Control Panel" in the search box.
Click "Show all Control Panel Items"
Click "Troubleshooting"
Click "Hardware and Sound"

You will get a message "Searching Online for Troubleshooting Packs

Click "Hardware and Devices"

Thanks, Did not know about that. I will try it when it acts up. Only seems to act up about every two weeks.
