We have had lots of rain here in South East Queensland in the last few days so I went for a drive to our local dam yesterday. It is the fullest I have seen it for many long years, even some of the picnic tables are in the water.
Water is being released from this dam into the next one downstream which is the main water supply for the SE area including Brisbane (our capital).

Here's a couple of pics, the rest are on my website http://people.aapt.net.au/wildchild2/SomersetDam.html

So full, gates open so the water will go over the spillway if it gets too full.

Great pictures, everyone. Steve especially, I really like the ones of the memorial service. And that castle in upstate NY. Never knew that was there, I definitely want to go check that thing out. I figured I'd post a few myself since I'm too restless to sleep, and have nothing better to do. tongue.gif

This is a pretty huge Iguana I took when I was in Florida. They're everywhere.

My cat hanging out on the windowsill.

This one I took on my 35mm. Bayonne, NJ before a huge storm.

Sandy Hook Beach, NJ. Took this out of a car while sitting in traffic.

And this is a small collage I made of my adorable niece. I drew the blocks in Illustrator and I airbrushed her face a bit.

Thanks for the compliments, Steve. I'm pretty happy with the picture of my cat. I cropped it a bit so that her collar isn't showing as much. =]

Maybe you can give me some advice on a lens? I'm new to digital photography and looking to buy a new lens. Basically, I bought the 450D body a couple months ago and I've been using the old EF lenses from my 35mm SLR(35-80mm kit lens and Tamron 100-300mm). I'm looking for a decent all-around lens that isn't too expensive. Someone told me the 28mm f2.8 is good for landscapes and possibly portraits. Is this true? Should I just buy the 18-55mm IS kit lens that would have come with the camera? The more reviews I read and lenses I look at, the more clueless I feel. Wide angle lenses appeal to me, but I'm not sure. I appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks.

Keep in mind that the wide angle lens' are just that, wide. If you want to get a close up shot, you'd have to change your lens. That's the biggest downfall to a single lens, is that you can't zoom in or out. On the flip side, you gain an extra F-stop with a fixed lens. However, you'll seldom need to drop below F 3.5 for anything in day to day shooting. The 18-55 is a decent lens. I have a 18-200 which cost an arm and a leg. You can browse Ritz photo's website. I've used their stuff for years, and was very happy with their Quantaray brand (which is made by Tamron which is the worlds largest manufacturer of lens'). The Quantaray brand is cheap and still has good quality.

Hope this helps a bit! thumbup2.gif

Alright, thanks for the advice. I think I'm just going to pick up the kit lens for now. It's a lot wider than what I have, has IS and is pretty cheap. Lenses are too expensive, it's kind of crazy.
