yes, but its no longer as big of a deal as it has been in the past, a lot of hardware companies have been coming out with linux drivers as of lately because of the increasing popularity. At one point, I even had Ubuntu recognizing my crossfire setup.

As for the hardware malfunctions, any computer regardless of OS is subject to hardware malfunctions. In the PC world, some brands are worse then others, in the apple world there is one brand-apple, just keep in mind apple computers these days are basically the same as PCs hardware wise they just use a different OS. For ordering parts, I prefer www.newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com. Even for prebuild systems thats what I normally go through.

Some of the Apple's hardware are usually outdated and they still cost more.

The hardware in Apple's current lineup doesn't look that much outdated to me.
I'd put it this way; choose what you think is the best option for you, not what others think.
Btw If you think Apple is overpriced, you haven't seen Alienware then...

Alienware is overpriced but that is a gaming computer not for just general basic use.

Yes, Alienware is a gaming PC, but I can build similarly specced system which is still cheaper and can handle both daily tasks and mid- to high end gaming. I'm sure Alienware provides their customers with excellent machines, but so does Apple, and any other brand. They all have their strengths and weaknesses.
