With any fix like this you should create a new restore point and backup the registry first. For backing up the registry I like to use ERUNT.

Save these two registry editor files in *.reg format then double-click them to merge into the registry.

Restart computer.

Click Start and in Start search type in:
regedit
Press Enter.

Registry editor will open.
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\BFE
Right click on BFE key, click Permissions
Click on Add button, type Everyone and click OK.
Now click once on Everyone
Below, in Permissions pane checkmark Allow in Full control row.
Click OK.

Then try to start the Firewall services.

Also, I am curious to know how you fixed the winsock problem.

In order to get winsock back, earlier I had tried to delete the winsock and winsock2 registry entries. Of course, I had backed them up before deleting them. I restored them back and did the command you gave me again (netsh winsock reset) and it worked.

I found a fix for windows defender as well and it is working great now. There was just a registry key missing.

Yeah another FSS wouldn't hurt. Also, update Malwarebytes and run a quick scan.

Dont know how to check that?? I know I turned on system restore and it worked. How do you make sure those are on?
