Hello,

I have been trying to resolve an issue with my computer for a little while now, as documented in this forum thread: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic433757.html/page__pid__2527576 . The short of it is, that I had the Win 7 Security Malware, and I tried following the instructions provided on this site to fix it by running FixNCR and iExplore. I ran them in safe mode, and when I rebooted my computer, none of my programs were reacting to my commands. It wasn't frozen, but nothing would start. I posted in the 'Am I infected?' forum, where the moderator took me through several steps in an attempt to fix the issue, as is documented int he link above. Since none of that worked I was directed here. I am attaching the DDS logs as I was instructed, I hope to hear from you soon!

Attached File(s)

  • Attached File  DDS.txt (24.53K)
    Number of downloads: 7
  • Attached File  Attach.txt (14.06K)
    Number of downloads: 1

I should also note that I have to do pretty much everything through safe mode, since nothing works in normal mode.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer!

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

To help Bleeping Computer better assist you please perform the following steps:

***************************************************

Posted Image In order to continue receiving help at BleepingComputer.com, YOU MUST tell me if you still need help or if your issue has already been resolved on your own or through another resource! To tell me this, please click on the following link and follow the instructions there.

CLICK THIS LINK >>> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/logreply/436171 <<< CLICK THIS LINK

If you no longer need help, then all you needed to do was the previous instructions of telling me so. You can skip the rest of this post. If you do need help please continue with Step 2 below.

***************************************************

Posted Image If you still need help, I would like you to post a Reply to this topic (click the "Add Reply" button in the lower right hand of this page). In that reply, please include the following information:

  • If you have not done so already, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.
  • A new DDS and GMER log. For your convenience, you will find the instructions for generating these logs repeated at the bottom of this post.
    • Please do this even if you have previously posted logs for us.
    • If you were unable to produce the logs originally please try once more.
    • If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.
    • If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you.

  • Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.
  • Upon completing the above steps and posting a reply, another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.

Thank you for your patience, and again sorry for the delay.

***************************************************

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links if you no longer have it available. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit Scanner.

Please note that if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows you will not be able to run GMER and you may skip this step.

Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!

I will repost the logs when I get home from work, however I don't think anything has really changed.

With the boot being affected and the aswMBR log showing an unknown Master Boot Record let's boot outside of the Windows environment and see if we can see any modifications

Try this please. You will also need a USB drive.

Download GETxPUD.exe to the desktop of your clean computer
  • Run GETxPUD.exe
  • A new folder will appear on the desktop.
  • Open the GETxPUD folder and click on the get&burn.bat
  • The program will download xpud_0.9.2.iso, and upon finished will open BurnCDCC ready to burn the image.
  • Click on Start and follow the prompts to burn the image to a CD.
  • Next download dumpit to your USB
  • Remove the USB & CD and insert it in the sick computer
  • Boot the Sick computer with the CD you just burned
  • The computer must be set to boot from the CD
  • Gently tap F12 and choose to boot from the CD
  • Follow the prompts
  • A Welcome to xPUD screen will appear
  • Press File
  • Expand mnt
  • Click on sdb1 (sdb1 represents the USB drive).
  • Double click on the dumpit file.
  • A black window will pop-up and it will dump and zip the MBR to your USB drive.
  • Press Enter to exit the black window.
  • Click on HOME tab and choose Power Off to turn off xPUD.
  • Remove the USB drive and insert it back on your working computer.
  • Locate the mbr.zip file in your USB drive and attach it when you reply.

If I have helped you fix your PC then please donate. Thanks

I don't have a flash drive so I tried using my external hard drive from my old computer, I couldn't find dumpit on there. I will try to find a flash drive to use tonight.

No one I know seems to have one! weird right? I don't think work will let me borrow one either, this external hard drive is all I have. Is there some better way to put the file into that hard drive for me to locate it?

You have to use a USB even with a xPUD disk.

Can you run MBRCheck, this will confirm whether the xPUD way is necessary or not

Please download MBRCheck to your desktop.

1. Double click MBRCheck.exe to run it (Right click and run as Administrator for Vista).
2. It will open a black window, please do not fix anything (if it gives you an option).
3. Exit that window and it will produce a log (MBRCheck_date_time).
4. Please post that log when you reply.
If I have helped you fix your PC then please donate. Thanks

The MBR is not showing evidence that we need to boot into xPUD. We should be able to do this another way.

Please run TDSSKiller

  • Download TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.

  • Extract its contents to your desktop and make sure TDSSKiller.exe (the contents of the zipped file) is on the Desktop itself, not within a folder on the desktop.

  • Go to Start > Run (Or you can hold down your Windows key and press R) and copy and paste the following into the text field. (make sure you include the quote marks) Then press OK.

    "%userprofile%\Desktop\TDSSKiller.exe" -l report.txt

  • Now click Start Scan.

  • If Malicious objects are found, ensure Cure is selected then click Continue > Reboot now.

  • Click Close

  • Finally press Report and copy and paste the contents into your next reply. If you've rebooted then the log will be found at C:\

If I have helped you fix your PC then please donate. Thanks
