when i try to start a program, like my antivirus, or VLC, or mozilla, or a lot of the options in the control panel, it asks me to choose a program to start the program with...i had the vista antivirus 2012 a month back, but i ran AVAST antivirus, and a couple of boot time scans says it's all gone...just kinda frustrating right now and wondering what i can do. any questions or comments are appreciated

Well...when did your problems with ineffective use of mouse...begin?
Often, when the files are scrambled, such things may occur.
Have you tried running the chkdsk /r command...and then following that with defrag of the Windows partition?

Click YES when UAC prompt comes up
You should be able to open files properly

Well...if you follow the suggestion from narenxp...I suggest that you back up your registry first, using a tool like ERUNT Registry Backup Tool - http://www.snapfiles.com/get/erunt.html .
The above suggestion inovlves editing the registry and you can never assume that everything will go according to plan.
