When posting your problem, do not run and post a ComboFix log. ComboFix is a tool that should only be run under the supervision of someone who has been trained in its use. Using it on your own can cause problems with your computer. Any posts containing CF Logs will be ignored.

To receive help, you should instead provide a detailed description of your problem, detailed word-for-word error messages that you are receiving, screenshots of strange behaviour, and your operating system. This information is much more useful to our helpers than a ComboFix log.

So, this is the second time in the last week I've had this problem.

After removing Vista Antivirus 2012 (or some variant of it) the firewall will not turn on. In the control panel, under the Windows Firewall tab, it says:

Quote

Windows Firewall is not using the recommended settings to protect your computer.

If I click Update settings now I get an error message that says:

Quote

Windows Firewall was unable to make the requested updates.

If I go to the Services tool the Windows Firewall and Windows Defender entries are missing.

If I type "netsh firewall reset" it says "The service has not been started."

I ran the Windows Firewall Fixer tool and it fail.

I ran an FSS Scan, here is a link to the results(would it be better to post them here?): http://pastebin.com/EEMCH0WJ

I was reading a thread where someone had a similar issue (Here) but I don't get the error number.

The last time I had this issue it was on a Windows 7 machine and I just re-installed the OS. I could re-install the OS on this computer as well but I would rather not, and I would like to know if there is another way to fix this issue.

My OS is Windows Vista Home Premium.
It's an HP Compaq Presario F700 Laptop.

Is there any other info I should post?

I really appreciate the help.

It won't work.
Firewall registry keys are computer specific and they can't be transferred from another computer.

Have a little faith in narenxp. He has done this before successfully. ;)

The only thing I question is the sequence -- why import before you grant permissions? I do it the other way around but just my personal preference.

Hey, thanks for the fast reply.

I will give it a try when I get a chance. Right now I don't have access to the computer. I should have access in a week or so.

Thank you very much.
