When posting your problem, do not run and post a ComboFix log. ComboFix is a tool that should only be run under the supervision of someone who has been trained in its use. Using it on your own can cause problems with your computer. Any posts containing CF Logs will be ignored.

To receive help, you should instead provide a detailed description of your problem, detailed word-for-word error messages that you are receiving, screenshots of strange behaviour, and your operating system. This information is much more useful to our helpers than a ComboFix log.

A few days ago my computer, an old HP a387x running Windows XP SP3, became infected. After doing repairs with Malwarebytes and Avast the continual annoying popups requesting registration has stopped but now I'm unable to restart my Internet service and the firewall remains disabled.

Any help will be appreciated.

Welcome aboard Posted Image

Please download Farbar Service Scanner and run it on the computer with the issue.
  • Make sure the following options are checked:
    • Internet Services
    • Windows Firewall
    • System Restore

  • Press "Scan".
  • It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

Following steps involve registry editing. Please create new restore point before proceeding!!!
How to:
XP - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948247
Vista and Seven - http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/create-a-restore-point-for-windows-vistas-system-restore/

Download XP.zip file from here: http://www.smartestcomputing.us.com/files/download/9-registry-network-keys/
Unzip the file.
You'll find six files inside.
Right click on ipsec.reg file, click "Merge".
Allow registry merge.
Restart computer, update me on your computer behavior and post new FSS log.
