I'm sorry to have kept you involved so long. The actual resolution - in addition to cleaning out the Trojan32 - was the older flavor of Symantec Endpoint Protection, and the router's opening added HTTP ports to handle the traffic from a 20M/3M cable modem.
Version 11.0.4 was sensitive to the traffic volume and shut down the port. We upgraded to 11.0.6 and got the notification that symantec was doing that. By turning off the DOS the browsing returned to normal. Upgrading to 11.0.7 and we could turn on the DOS protection and still browse normally.
