BleepingComputer.com: Send a photograph by Live Mail.

I use a digital camera and I use a computer but I am not sure what the correct way is to send a photograph by E-Mail or even how to determine what format the photographs are that I download from my camera. I just sent a photograph by E-Mail by clicking onto the photograph and selecting "send" and the photograph appeared on the E-Mail desktop and not as an attachment which I'm sure is incorrect. Can anyone let me know the correct procedure including how to determine which format the downloaded photographs are and how to change it if necessary?
