Western Digital Hard drive disconnects....

Hello,

My Western Digital hard drive (it's my D:\) keep disconnect at a random time... Each time it happens, I have to remove my desktop case and re-plug the hard drive. The wire (SATA thingy) is fine.

The model is: WD2500JS-00MB0

It's getting really annoying. Is there any way to fix it?

Tried another SATA cable just in case?
If you disconnec the SATA cable and reconnect it is fine for a while right?
How often does this occur?

See if the drive is still under warranty at www.wd.com
Typically the warranty is 3 years. You can look it up on the site with the serial number on the drive.
If it is, and you feel it should be replaced WD is really good about that.

It happens each week.

Month ago, I used another sata cable and same thing happen. (thats why i said the wire (SATA thingy) is fine)

My warranty expired 1-2 years ago.

Is there any diagnotic tool or something that could stop the issue?

Check on another available SATA port. Use windows GUI error checking tool by right-clicking the partitions-Properties-Tools. Checkmark both options.

How do I access the windows GUI error?

(I dont have other sata port. just two that are being used)

What's the date of manufacture reflected on the hard drive label?

FYI, it's better to ask Serial Number of that Hardrive rather ask the date of manufacture as at WD Website you could check warranty for all WD Hardrive with that Serial Number.

Do you use 2 Hardrive on your Computer? If yes, what is the other one?
Could you tell your Computer Brand and Model? If that was Custom Computer please just tell your Mainboard Brand and Model only?

Usually this because your cable (power/data) not tight or loose connection but when that D: disconnected does your system freeze or you get any error message?

I think its safe to run a diagnostic test for the disconnecting hard drive at this point. With certain clicking sound is really not a good sign.

The short answer is...just get a replacement drive

. Any alleged repair effort that won't cost more than a new hard drive these days...well, I would be highly skeptical.

Suffice it to say that a clicking sound from a hard drive is a normal indicator that the drive needs to be replaced, rather than reused.
