On my msi laptop I have the following message:

Fatal error C0000034 applying update operation 197 of 115301 (_00000..)

It was doing as the message states applying an update when the problem developed.

How do I get past this? How do I do the restore to an earlier point? Would that help? I just don't remember how to do it?

Thanks.

Hi kcsummer,

Reboot, before the Windows logo tap the F8 button..The link below will guide you through starting in safe mode
Start your computer in safe mode

When in safe mode..click start..type system restore..click on system restore and follow the prompts

You can also try the option 'Last Known Good Configuration'
Using Last Known Good Configuration

Oh wow that's a lot of stuff - looks like at least one person got a good result, thanks for the link.

However, last night I gave up and restored my computer to original settings, lost some stuff in the process but I have been fighting uphill battles (geez life is complicated with all our technology communication is difficult) with Adobe about a Photoshop Rebate Form, with AT&T who is next to impossible to get a real live flesh and blood human being to talk to, and this laptop that I have an extended warranty on with office Depot but they passed me off to MSI (manufacturer) who said they couldn't help me because the computer was out of warranty even though I just bought it in November so I gave up and did the easiest thing. These companies don't give 2 cents about customer service. Sigh. I can only fight so many battles till I wear out.

Thanks though for trying to help out.

This is a fairly common problem when installing Service Pack 1 on Windows 7.

There is a supposed update fix for this: An update that prevents a "0xC0000034" error message when you try to install Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 is available
